DOUBLE CLOWN

No one would even buy his clown costume
As it started to drizzle outside
No one could remember whether they were at
A garage sale or a consignment store

They didn’t know whether to bargain
Or to sit there and haggle
Or whether anything meant anything at all

No one would even buy his clown costume
As it started to drizzle outside
No one could remember whether weather was nice
When they went to the circus or the rodeo

Double Clown is about a bodhisattva who returns to their community from having experienced nirvana. The clown costume in the song is a metaphor for the identity this person resumed after truly experiencing non-duality. It's really just a rag-time or folk ballad dressed up in grunge clothing.

Mohaynow's suburban country grunge single Double Clown will obliterate your speakers. The lyrics process the dualities of existence and perception. This studio arrangement of the well-loved demo (2020) contains fuzzed out guitar with a subdued rag-time piano. The best two minutes you will spend this year marks a swift left turn in Mohaynow’s sound—we absolutely loved the bedroom pop, but this melting crunchy psychedelia has us scouring our music libraries for greasy jalapeño nachos. And don’t you worry, Mohaynow has the broiler on, and they’re bringing the fucking nachos. This cow-punchy, punk ode depicts a bodhisattva who enjoys rodeos, vintage stores, garage sales, and circuses that just can’t seem to stay out of the drizzling rain.
